This is the first entry into the log of our attempt to live a little more simply and not spend money on useless "stuff". About 2 years ago we found and started using the Farmers Market for all our fruit and veg needs. Doing this has sent us on a quest to eat food that has less impact on the environment. All the food at the market has had to travel less kilometres to get to us as it is all produced locally.
A while ago we stopped eating as much takeaway as we use to. It was always so convenient to just pick up chinese on the way home from work, this is expensive and full of fat, so we cook most of our meals at home and from scratch, I have even taken the processed bottles and packet mixes out of our diet. They contain too much salt anyway as well as making the meal more expensive.
We have now just embarked on growing our own food in our backyard. We had small amout of sucess with the tomatoes that we planted in pots in the summer that we have dug a vege patch in the garden and have planted winter vegetables. Broccoli, Cauliflower, Peas, Snowpeas, Parsnips, Turnips, blueberries, bay laurel, we have pak choy and chinese cabbage in the seedling house growing away frantically, we will be able to put them in the ground next weekend they should be srtong enough.
I have reorganised the worm farm and compost bins and have organised an extra bin someone is giving me one they don't use. Then we should have lots of lovely compost for the garden.
